Not to be confused with the Tire Company of the same name, Goodyear has a good deal of history and growth among its sister cities in the West Valley.
What makes Goodyear what it is today?
My original statement is to be corrected: The CITY really WAS connected to the COMPANY of Goodyear; rather the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The town was originally used as cultivation of cotton for the war effort in World War II. After the war, the town became incorporated on November 19th, 1946. It was a small quaint town with a few homes and basic amenities. It finally became a city in 1985. From that point forward, along with the selling of land for expansion, Goodyear saw some of the largest population growth in the Valley’s history. That growth can still be felt to this day.
Anything Special About The Area?
Several things make Goodyear stand out. First and foremost is that this city is the home of the Goodyear Ballpark. This ballpark is where Spring Training for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians is held. It also has the Phoenix Trotting Park; a harness racing track. This track isn’t in use, but the building still stands and can bee seen from a good distance. Finally, there’s the South Lake Park in the community of Estrella.
